So today we’re going to be talking about what to do when you are bored or what to do with your free time now i actually have a lot of personal stories i’m going to be sharing in this video as far as things i’ve done in the past and i’ve actually struggled a lot in the past but some of these bad habits or things you really shouldn’t do when you’re bored and i kind
Of want to share that part with you guys as well just to show you that you know a lot of people out there are making mistakes and doing things with their time that they shouldn’t be doing so maybe if you’re in a position where you have a lot of free time and you maybe have some bad habits don’t think that it’s the end of the world you can always improve upon these
Habits i had that problem for a long time where i had a lot of free time on my hands but i didn’t spend it well i did a lot of things that you really shouldn’t be doing with your free time but i basically have six recommendations of things you should do with your time and then six things you really should not be doing with your time if you’re bored or if you have
Spare time and you’re looking to figure out what you should be doing so first of all let’s start with what you shouldn’t be doing with your time and i’m gonna share with you guys when i have done this myself so first of all the number one thing you don’t want to do if you have extra time is to sleep and this isn’t really a problem i have myself but i can tell you
That for example friends of mine and actually my own brother has this problem where when he doesn’t have anything going on if he doesn’t have plans he just sleeps and he’ll go to sleep for you know longer than you normally have to i mean that the average person needs about 7 to 8 hours of sleep and there’s times when he’ll sleep 11 or 12 hours and i know a lot of
People struggle with this where if they don’t have a reason to get up in the morning they just stay in bed and unfortunately you’re wasting multiple hours every single day if you’re just going to sleep away your free time although the next one on my list here is equally as bad if not worse and that is having harmful distractions guys this is anything like alcohol
This could be drugs this could be anything that is just not good for you or people around you but you do it because you’re bored and you need a distraction so if you’re currently somebody who is drinking too much or smoking cigarettes or doing anything like that because you have you’re bored and you have too much free time on your hands you need to find constructive
Activities and stop doing these things because number one they are they’re bad for you and number two they affect the people around you the next one on my list here is assuming junk content now what i considered videos like this to be junk content i would not i would say these are educational videos and as long as you guys are taking action on this advice then this
Is not what i would consider to be junk content i would call it junk content things that you’re watching just to pass the time you’re not learning anything and you’re not exploring new ideas you’re just watching things happen in front of you just to distract yourself from your own life so this could be things like reality television i would say most news stations
Are a junk distraction or junk media i would say any youtube channels where you’re not learning stuff maybe the the vlogging channels i mean if it’s something you enjoy then that falls down to my rule on the bottom here which is everything in moderation because guys don’t get me wrong there are times when i watch things out of enjoyment there are times when i sit
Down with my girlfriend and we watch a movie and is that movie gonna benefit me in any way absolutely not but i follow my rule of everything in moderation so i’m not gonna beat myself up over sitting down and watching a movie but if i were to start watching a movie every single night now that is what i would call junk content and it’s become a habit at that point
So you don’t want to turn something like that into a habit but once in a while it’s not a bad thing to sit down and watch something just purely out of enjoyment next up on my list is one that i struggled with for a very long time and that is eating when you are bored so when i was a kid i was bored like crazy okay i had a very active mind and i would constantly be
Looking for things to do and unfortunately one of the distractions i found was eating and as a result i was very overweight as a child it was something i actually struggled with all the way up until my senior year of high school until i learned one of the things you should do on my list here is to exercise but i actually struggled with my weight for a very long
Time and a lot of that came from me being bored as a child and as a result starting to eat food out of boredom so that’s one of the worst things you guys can do is to be eating food if you’re bored next up don’t be a phone zombie i think you guys know what this is this shouldn’t require any explanation but this is somebody who is just staring down at their phone
Swiping through different apps looking for distractions looking for something to distract them at that point so you don’t want to become a phone zombie of somebody who just automatically reaches for their phone when they’re bored because then you’re going to be using that as a crutch and you’re never really going to learn constructive activities that are really
Going to benefit your life because every time you’re bored you’re just going to reach for that pacifier or that smartphone in our case as adults so don’t be sitting there swiping through apps like a phone zombie if you have nothing to do find something else to do and finally don’t shop when you’re bored a lot of people do this i know a lot of people that i used to
Work with would go out shopping on lunch because there was nothing really to do they’d be like well i brought my lunch to work and i have half an hour i can eat at my desk and i can go shop and you know browse the stores and all you’re going to be doing is increasing your discretionary spending you’re gonna be spending more money than you would ordinarily because
You’re gonna walk into that store you’re gonna see a clearance item where you’re gonna see a sale and you’re gonna buy things you would not ordinarily buy so if you’re shopping out of boredom you’re gonna be spending more money and it’s just something you shouldn’t be doing with your time it’s an utter waste of time and that’s what malls are designed for they’re
Designed for a place where you should go when you’re bored now malls in general are dying off because i think people are doing other things with their time but if you’re someone who still shops out of boredom i would highly recommend that you stop doing that alright now that we have identified what you should not do when you’re bored or when you have free time
Let’s talk about what you should be doing and the number one thing on my list here guys is exercise exercise is so important to your body for so many reasons and i highly recommend if you’re not currently exercising or getting outside for under 30 minutes or an hour a day you need to start doing that so rather than staying inside and watching tv or just staying in
Bed why not get up and get some exercise exercise is one of the most important things to my own life and it really did help me overcome one of my problems which was boredom eating and eating just solely out of boredom and now i personally make time no matter what my schedule is i don’t care how busy i am i try to get to the gym five to six times a week just because
I love it and it’s a very important piece and component of my life so one of the best things you can do if you have free time is to start a gym routine or start an exercise regimen and really improve your health and it’s just going to help you in so many different ways and it’s a very constructive thing to do when you bored it’s really a good thing to do and it
Really will help you as far as looking for things to do when it’s going to help you burn off your energy as well next up on my list equally important is to learn now everyone learns in different ways some people are visual learners some people learn from books so i’m not going to tell you guys how to do this but learning is very important for most people learning
Stops once you graduate high school and for some people it stops once you graduate college but you really should commit to being a lifelong learner and learning for the rest of your life that’s why i constantly am reading books or listening to podcasts or listening to audiobooks or watching youtube videos that are educating me because i have committed myself to
Being a lifelong learner and just learning new things because that is the only time that i’m really happy is when i am learning the next thing you should do with your time if you’re bored is to start reflecting and what i mean by that is anytime when you’re present in the moment without distractions that could be something like meditation that could be going on a
Walk alone without your phone and just walking and being in nature do any kind of self reflecting and give yourself time to think and you know come up with new ideas and just reflect on your life that is one of my favourite things to do and i find often times i will get overwhelmed and when i get overwhelmed my quality of work suffers and i get us anxiety and so i
Always force myself to just stop everything and reflect and i usually would go for a walk or just get rid of all my distractions and just kind of sit there and be present for a moment and kind of ground myself and say okay is everything really that big of a problem and then when i go back into it and start working again i have a much clearer mind towards figuring
Out those problems so one of the best things you guys can do is to take time to reflect on your own life if you have spare time another thing that is very important that a lot of people overlook is the ability to give back understand that a lot of people out there do not have this gift that you have of having a lot of free time i mean you may see it as a curse
Right now if you’re bored and you have nothing to do and you’re miserable because of it but a lot of people are stuck in jobs where they have too little time and they’re not able to do things that you’re able to do but one of the best things you guys can do in this situation is to give back to other people now this could be through donation of your time or it could
Just be simply doing kind things for other people but i would highly recommend looking at doing some kind of volunteering it’s gonna give you a good sense of gratification and make you feel really good about yourself and i’m saying that from experience because i do spend time each month volunteering because i have the ability to do that and it really does give you
A sense of fulfillment that does not come from anything else in life so i would highly recommend looking at volunteering somewhere donating your time or just helping other people another thing you guys could do is go visit some of those people in nursing homes i mean there’s so many things you can be doing with your time other than these bad habits over here other
Than sleeping and drinking and smoking and consuming junk content and eating food and being a phone zombie think about instead of doing those things if you went to a nursing home and spent time with people and saw how grateful they were to actually see you there i mean think about when do you think the last time is that a young person or any person really walked
Into a nursing home and just visited with people they didn’t know do you know how grateful people would be if you did that yet so few people are doing that so that’s one idea i’m gonna give you guys and it’s something i really would like to do myself as well but anyway you can give back it’s really going to benefit you in your own life and give you an overwhelming
Sense of gratification the next thing is to find a constructive hobby now i’m not going to tell you guys what this is because it’s different for everyone maybe it’s going to be music maybe it’s going to be art maybe you’re going to widow but whatever it is find something you enjoy doing working with your hands is good for many people and just start doing that hobby
As a way to you know get away from your own life and kind of take a break and everyone needs things that they do that aren’t necessarily related to work and money that they do solely for the sake of enjoyment and i’ll tell you right now that is one area of my life that i am lacking is i don’t have a constructive hobby most of what i do in my life revolves around
My work in my youtube channel because i really enjoy doing this stuff but i don’t have anything that i do solely for enjoyment and you really need that because you need to have the ability to take a break and do something else with your time that isn’t about money or work so that is one area that i need to work on myself and then the last thing guys ties in with
Reflecting and that is just getting out in being in nature and going on a walk and getting fresh air and that also could be a way you’re getting exercise as well but consider maybe if you are always going to the gym and working out indoors maybe once a week or twice a week exercise outdoors just to get some fresh air get some sunlight it’s really gonna be beneficial
To you but anyways guys these are the things that i have been trying to do myself and a lot of these here are habits i have had in the past i was a phone zombie i had an addiction to clash of clans for a while i used to be one of those people who would shop on my lunch break i used to be a boredom eater i used to consume a lot of junk content watching netflix for
One or two hours every single night and i’ve never really been one for the harmful distractions and sometimes i do have trouble with my sleeping but that’s not my major issue but i basically took all of my bad habits and replace them with new habits and better things i can do with my time and my number one rule with all of this is everything in moderation i’m not
Telling you guys that you shouldn’t ever drink alcohol if you want to have a beer with your friends that’s not the end of the world it’s all about moderation here so everything i’m saying here take it with a grain of salt and understand that you know moderation is everything and it’s not an end-all be-all if you go out there and watch a movie with your girlfriend
