In an episode of Extreme Cheapskates, a man pulls off all the grapes in order to remove the stems. Today I find out how much you really save by doing such a crazy thing. Is it worth the weird looks and feeling embarrassed? Or rather, those who are extreme cheapskates have no shame and do it anyway without feeling embarrassed at all. I weigh the offending items and see their value. The result may surprise you.
How’s it going everybody this is b the bush today i’m going to answer the important questions in life which is if it’s worth it to remove the stems on grapes before you buy them why this question i saw this on an episode of extreme cheapskate where the extreme cheapskate remove the stems and then the grocery workers are looking at them it’s like oh my gosh why
What are you doing and the reasoning is they’re not going to eat it anyway so why buy something they’re not going to eat it’s kind of frowned upon because it’s such a small thing and really it’s what keeps the grapes all bunched up nicely together it’s kind of like oh i’m gonna remove all the skins of a banana and just take the center of the banana and buy that

Grape point one point two so wow one bag is worth two grapes so if you don’t buy the bag you can get two more grapes let me remove all the grapes here so here are the stems the moment of truth here let’s weigh the stem 0.01 really it’s kind of like one grape let me switch to a more precise unit maybe i can see something a little bit better how many grams five
Grams a grape is five grams this guy’s probably 10 grams right seven grams so like a small grape and a large grape uh let me find a smaller one right here nope smaller one two small grapes eight grams well there you have it that was certainly unexpected you really have to go through this exercise to really find out how much these things weigh how much are you
Really saving two full stems weighs the same as one grape the bag interestingly is quite heavy it weighs in at roughly two grapes so i think this bag is intentionally thicker than a lot of the vegetable bags so let me bring out one of those and weigh it like these guys right here the ones that you put your vegetables in so let me weigh this three grams versus
Seven grams so this is about half the weight and i guess you can pull out all the grapes and put it in one of these bags and then buy it like that and not buy this stupid little slightly heavy bag but the point of this whole exercise is to realize how ridiculous it is just to save on three single grapes you probably would save more if you just buy a better bunch
Of grapes that doesn’t have ones that are rotten or anything then you can save a few grapes that way personally i have never done this before i always buy it in the original bag with the original stems sometimes even if the stems is a little thick i’m like okay let me buy it anyway so one grape is seven grams and i did all the conversion if it’s one dollar per
Pound for grapes if you don’t buy the organic stuff it’s about 0.15 so it’s quite a small amount if you’re buying organic scrapes it’s four dollars a pound so let’s just multiply this by four then it’s still about half a penny each grade if you pull out two stems you save half a penny let’s say it’s like a really big bunch of grapes and you pull out four stems
Right you save one whole penny in a four dollar per pound grape so not worth it i think in the extreme cheesecake show they kind of egg people on to appear more dramatic appear more cheap than usual so you can’t believe everything you see on that show i’m kind of skeptical if that guy does this for real and some people pinch pennies and in this case is literally
