How’s it going today guys i hope you’re having a fantastic day so in this video here i thought it might be interesting to actually sit down and calculate how much the ceo and founder of amazon jeff bezos made each hour in 2017 and to be honest with you guys it’s a number that is really difficult to wrap your head around and so i’m going to be comparing it to the
Average amount of money somebody makes in the united states in one year compared to what jeff bezos made in that year instead so based on the most recent figures that i could find jeff bezos effectively has seventy eight point eight three million shares of amazon stock so what we’re going to be doing is looking at how much money he made just from the share price
Appreciation of amazon stock in 2017 alone and that’s not counting the insane rally we’ve seen in amazon stock already in 2018 so let’s go ahead and see how much money jeff bezos made just from the appreciation of the shares of amazon stock that he already owns so on january 3rd of 2017 the first official trading day of that year amazon stock closed at seven hundred
Fifty three dollars and 67 cents per share and on the final trading day of 2017 on december 29th amazon stock closed at eleven sixty nine forty seven per share so in 2017 alone amazon stock increased by four hundred fifteen dollars and eighty cents per share so effectively jeff bezos made four hundred fifteen dollars and eighty cents per share of amazon stock that
He owned in 2017 so there’s a lot of people who were happy about the growth of amazon stock in 2017 i certainly was as i was a sure holder during that time but i don’t think anybody was as happy as jeff bezos was based on how much money he made in that year alone so as we said jeff bezos owned seventy eight point eight three million shares of amazon stock and each
Share went up by four hundred fifteen dollars and eighty cents per share in 2017 that means that jeff bezos made thirty two point seven eight billion dollars in 2017 now i don’t know about you guys but that’s a number that i can’t even wrap my head around and so the easiest way to figure this out is to figure out how much jeff bezos made per hour in 2017 assuming
He worked a 40-hour workweek like most people do now as the ceo and founder of amazon i’m sure he works a lot more than 40 hours a week but if he worked just 40 hours per week jeff bezos made fifteen point seven six million dollars every single hour in 2017 alone just from the share price appreciation and like i said guys that’s honestly a number that’s hard for me
To even wrap my head around if you think about the fact that most people will make i don’t know three to five million dollars in their lifetime if they’re lucky that is what jeff bezos made in one hour he made more than most people will ever make in their entire lifetime unless they are very successful and very well-off that is how much jeff bezos made in 2017 so
Just to put that into perspective for you the average person in the united states makes a salary of around $35,000 so for every dollar that the average person makes jeff bezos makes nine hundred thirty-six thousand dollars so what that basically means is for your i to go spend a dollar jeff bezos could spend just about 1 million dollars and pretty much be unaffected
But there is one thing we have to talk about here and that is the fact that jeff bezos didn’t necessarily sell his shares of amazon stock in 2017 because he still owns them and the only way he would have actually made that money is if he sold the stock and recognized capital gains so no jeff bezos is not sitting on billions of dollars in cash he’s not gonna make
That money until he sells his shares of amazon which i don’t imagine he’s going to be doing anytime soon his actual compensation on the books for 2017 was a salary of just over eighty one thousand dollars and one point six million dollars in compensation of amazon stock but anyways guys that’s gonna wrap up this video i thought it’d be interesting to actually sit
